ASTM D2239

Overview

This specification covers polyethylene (PE) pipe made in standard thermoplastic pipe dimension ratios and pressure rated for water. Polyethylene plastics used to make pipe meeting the requirements of this specification are categorized in two criteria: short-term strength tests and long-term strength tests. The plastics are defined by four hydrostatic design stresses developed on the basis of long-term tests. The material shall conform to the required limits of burst pressure, environmental stress cracking, and sustained pressure.

This specification covers polyethylene (PE) pipe made in standard inside dimension ratios (SIDR) and pressure rated for water (see appendix). Included are requirements for PE compounds and requirements and test methods for workmanship, dimensions, elevated temperature sustained pressure, burst pressure, and marking.
